European Roots

When we opened our retail store in White Rock in 2002, John and Margaret were one of our first clients. We have done many projects together over the years in their heritage home in the Queens Park neighbourhood of New Westminster. Born in the Netherlands, they have a deep connection to their European roots and a love of old world art, antiques and interesting pieces brought back from their travels.

When the living room and dining room needed a refresh, I thought something dramatic would be a great backdrop for their curated collection. On one of my trips to the Netherlands, I remembered seeing art displayed on dark grey painted and wallpapered walls in the Rijks and Mauritshuis museums in Amsterdam and the Hague. I suggested we could create a similar look with the a beautiful dark grey wallpaper from William Morris. It looks stunning with their art and antiques.

Furniture was reupholstered, draperies installed and new lighting added. Two custom arm chairs and a reupholstered vintage 1970’s chair create a cozy spot to watch TV or admire the view of the garden through the floor to ceiling picture window.
